Elda and Petrer are situated in the North-West of Alicante Province, just off the Madrid Road (N330) which starts at Alicante town.  It is approximately thirty minutes drive to the golden beaches at Alicante, and just a couple of minutes more to Alicante airport.  It is a one hour drive North to Benidorm or an hour's drive South to Torrevieja. 

There is a new hospital built in Elda and there are also plenty of schools (including a University) and very importantly a bus, and a train station.

The town is deceptively large, there is a Carrefour hypermarket as you turn off the Madrid Road on the Elda/Petrer sign.  There is a Burger King and 10 screen cinema in the complex plus other shops. Just across the road from Carrefour is a new shopping centre, including a sports centre, that will be finished this year, with a drive thru McDonalds that is already open. 

The town has every kind of shop that you could ever need, there are also a good selection of  supermarkets, although one of the nicest places to buy fresh veg, fruit, flowers and most other supplies is the local indoor market (open 6 days a week) which is contained in two huge halls. 

On Tuesdays and Saturdays there is an open air market which goes along one of the main roads that runs down from the Madrid Road, which sells a good variety of clothes and shoes, etc.

Petrer's town is placed in the area "Les Valls del Vinalopó" (Vinalopo's Valleys) beside, on one hand the main road Alicante, Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, on the other, hand Vinalopo´s river and the railway Alicante, Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona.
Administratively speaking, Petrer belongs to the "Valenciano's Country" autonomic comunity, (Spanish State autonomy inside European Comunity).
Its culture belongs to the catalan lenguage, its lenguage is west catalan, popular and tradicionally known as "valenciano".

Placed at an altitude of 462 metres above sea level, it has an area of 104,2 km2 and its highest mountain is "Cilla del Sit" (Literal name: Lord's saddle) 1,127 metres high. Its weather is mediterranean with hot summers and soft winters with little rain in both cases.

As you approach Sax the first thing you notice is the 14th century castle perched on a rocky hilltop. It is said that you can obtain the key from the town hall and visit for a day, it is lit by night, dominating the whole town.

For a long time the main income for the people of Sax was agriculture, which is still true today.  The main crops being wine, olives, cereals and a small area by the vInalopo river for the cultivation of orchard fruits and vegetables.

In the last century, craft industries have grown up such as flour and fulling mills, distilleries and the manufacture of oriental screens.

Today most of the population are involved in the shoe and leather making industry, but agriculture still plays and important part.

Fiestas are celebrated during the first week of February with the Moors and the Christians.
