We advise anybody considering buying property in Catral at the moment to treat it with the "Utmost Caution" and under all circumstances to make sure you use a local Solicitor. The reason for this is - and we quote from an article out of the local Newspaper -
COUNCIL GAVE PLANNING PERMISSION FOR 1,200 HOMES ON PROTECTED LAND
Don Esteban Gonzalez Pons, head of the Regional Territory and Housing Department in Alicante, announced that the Generalitat (Valencia's regional government) has taken over the Planning Permission Department in Catral, removing that responsibility from the Town Hall.
The decision has been made after the Catral town council's Planning Department issued planning permission for 1,200 homes, which were built on protected land. Gonzalez Pons stated, "The houses have been built on more than 3 million square metres of land, which is either classified as protected or not suitable for development. Dated 06/10/06
